The recovery mode is a special setting on your MP3 player that will allow Windows to detect the device and flash the firmware, even when the device itself has been rendered inoperable. This can, for example, be due to flashing the firmware with the wrong version or corruption of the firmware. In recovery mode, the device will not be installed in Windows as mass storage device, but as recovery device. By default, Windows XP will not have drivers installed. Download the appropriate drivers here. Follow these steps to set the AudioKey Premium and Ultimate as Recovery Device: Make sure the device is not connected to a PC. Download and install the recovery device drivers. Switch off the device with the off switch. Remove the battery from the compartment. Lock the key with the switch Start the firmware update software. Press the power button of the key and keep it pressed. When the firmware updater shows Waiting for device detection, connect the key ( while keeping the power button pressed) to a PC. The key should now be detected as a recovery device by Windows. It will be identified as a STMP3500 Recovery device. You can now update the firmware with the appropriate version for your player. Once the firmware has been updated, the device will automatically be redetected in its normal mode as mass storage device.
